In Austria the Regulatory Authority for Broadcasting and Telecommunications (RTR) made radio licence decisions which are also "political orientated" or supports publishing companies which have "enough" money. For example KRONEHIT got a national licence, because the owner are from the biggest bulvár newspaper. Or Radio Arabella expanded its broadcasting coverage in recent years, because they have "political friendly" supporters at the RTR. For me Sláger and Danubius are so called political "paraszt áldozat". We have to accept this decision. Many years I enjoyed listening to both stations. In the recent years to Sláger's the weekend request show. I will miss Dániel István's nice voice in the future.
So the situation isn't very different in Austria, the decisions aren't made without political interests... In Hungary's media law there are only two national commercial radio networks, it's not expandable. When they compete for the right to use these frequencies, they can win them only for 7 years and after that they can get more 5 years, then they have to attend on a competition again.
Now Sláger makes a very unfair campaign, they don't tell to their listeners about the real problem with this competition, they just tell that the politicians want to cease them, and it's not completely true, because it's normal to have a new competition after 12 years, and they already knew it when they started to broadcast 12 years ago.
The problem with the competition is: the members of ORTT were disqualified one of the competitors because of its financial plan, but the same problems were with the winners' plans.
Anyway, i'm not so sad about Sláger's closedown, they were pretty boring and too pompous in my opinion, with outworn music.
